THE TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH - APRIL

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

SO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE CREEPY HOTEL BRIGADE.
Well, welcome potential apper! Here we have the handy dandy test drive meme so you can get a feel for how your character might react to the game setting. This post can also be used to cultivate some of those required sample threads for the application.

Feel free to play any scenario you so please. However please note that TDM threads cannot be used for Activity Checks (for existing players) and will not be considered game canon unless transposed comment for comment into logs in [community profile] checkingout. We also recommend avoiding playing the initial arrival, so that the intro log doesn't become repetitive and boring for you. Other than that, go wild.

Here's a few additional useful links:

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.
No time for losers, because we — have waffles and pancakes and crepes and delicate bowls of ripe bananas and juicy oranges. We have bacon and oatmeal and cereal and milk; we have coffee (that's really hot and will burn you quite spectacularly) and tea (that, on the other hand, is miserably cold and bland). And we have orange juice (that might just kill you)!

Basically, every component one needs to start the day off right. Which is good, because this is the only meal ever served in the hotel. So come one, come all — get it while it's hot and try to pick among seats amidst the crowded circular tables, or stand along the wall. Bemoan the lack of hashbrowns or fight over the last fork. Mix, mingle. Have "fun".

DON'T YOU LOVE MY TASTE IN MUSIC.
What starts as soft, subtle musical notes wafting out of unseen speakers?

Yeah, that quickly manifests into blaring, loud, aggressively high pitched notes — so distorted, and reverberating so magnificently in the main lobby that even those impenetrable windows rattle in their frames.

And what's more, there doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere in sight. Good luck finding one.

GOING DOWN.
Right by the stairwell in the lobby is an old timey elevator, the sort that really ought to be manned by staff to insure that it's in decent working condition and won't kill you. But it's usually not. And usually doesn't run.

But today, your ears are treated to an oh-so pleasant ding, and the doors will slide open, offering a ride to the floor of your choosing. Finally, no more calf workouts on the stairs, right?

...well, you probably should have taken the stairs, because three seconds in the entire carriage shudders, screeches to a halt, and refuses to move.

Then the lights begin to flicker.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE.
Don't see a scenario that appeals to you here? Make up your own. Get crazy with it! Good luck getting outside.

If poisoning is all we need to worry about the situation is better than I thought.

[Although, she isn't quite certain of that. Things seem too polite for the usual kidnapping, not that she'll complain about the lack of violence so far.

Of all the reasons she expected him to stare at her, recognizing her wasn't one that Peggy had considered. She wasn't the one who had been in the newsreels or been praised by the President.]

I am but you you seem to have the advantage since you know my name and I don't know yours.
avengeme: (say no to this face)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-31 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)
[Considering the number of people he's already seen here, he's not so sure the lack of violence will last. But still, talking to Peggy Carter is a lot more important right now. He gets to his feet and holds a hand out to her]

This is going to sound really strange but I'm Phil Coulson. I'm with SHIELD.

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-03-31 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Carefully concealing her confusion, she sets down her things before taking his hand. This is... odd. She tries to think of where they might have met, but she she's certain she would remember him if she had seen him before.

The name isn't familiar and neither is shield even if the term does give a familiar pang. Perhaps he's part of another government organization and had heard of her through those channels.]

It's a pleasure to meet you Mr. Coulson. I'm sorry but I'm not familiar with SHIELD.
avengeme: (entrance)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-02 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
[his eyes widen briefly at that. So she's from a time before? That does make things a bit more complicated]

That's all right. I've read about you from the war. [It's not exactly a lie but it's going to have to do while he figures out how much he should tell her]
therightpartner: (Rain)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-05 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I hope what you read was complimentary. [But the admission makes her wary. Her exploits aren't exactly public and few agents she's met have been appreciative of her role in the SSR.]

But it's rather rude to know so much about me while I can only hazard guesses regarding your work.
avengeme: (don't let the wrong word slip)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-06 04:53 pm (UTC)(link)
They are. [he says with a smile. Then he lets out a breath and rests his hands on the table. No sense hiding things from Peggy Carter. It may lead to more problems than good.]

There's not much to say about me. I've been with SHIELD most of my life. SHIELD is... it's what the SSR becomes in the future, thanks to you and Howard Stark.

therightpartner: (Rain)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-06 05:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Well, that was odd. Peggy had assumed that her record had listed her exploits in an unflattering light but Coulson seemed to think highly of her.

Very strange indeed. So is the idea that he was from the future.]

I would suggest that you're mistake but you don't seem to be the sort to make mistakes regarding details like those. I have earned some measure of respect with the SSR but Howard and I aren't exactly well regarded there.
avengeme: (talking it out)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-06 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Not at first. But you do make your way to the very top.

I know this must sound ridiculous to you.
therightpartner: (Headtilt - He'd be proud)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-18 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[For a moment, Peggy simply stares, knowing she's giving too much away but unable to help herself. She might not be the 'damsel' of the SSR but she was certain her moment of respect will soon fade.]

Women are not normally offered such positions.

[Even when they were deserved. Not just her but others who were capable but seen as inferior because they were female.]

Actually, I hope it's true. Such equality... I rarely experienced it except during the war.
avengeme: (don't let the wrong word slip)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-19 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
You're no ordinary woman. [he says kindly.]

I don't have any proof to show you but I really wouldn't lie to you.

[he pauses] There is something else you should know.
therightpartner: (Rain)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-19 06:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you.

[The words are accompanied by a rare, but genuine smile.]

For the compliment and the hint at what is in my future.

[It would help ease the frustration she still occasionally feels while working with the SSR and dealing with the sorts of idiots that harass Angie at the automat.

When his tone changes, Peggy grows still, wondering if whatever she needed to know was related to the hotel or something that he had seen in her files.]

What else do I need to know?
avengeme: (arms crossed)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-20 02:37 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson can't help but return the smile, relieved that she believed him. But it soon disappears in favor of telling her the other news he thinks she deserves to know.]

It took seventy years but we found Captain Rogers. He's alive.
therightpartner: (Anxious)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-26 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
[It's probably best that his news seems to steal away her voice for a few moments or she would say something foolish or make some humiliating sound. Instead she swallows hard, wrapping her hands around her coffee mug so that the trembling will be less obvious.]

Seventy years...

[Seventy years... They'd failed Steve for decades but he had been found alive, something she had never known for certain would be possible.]

Is he well?

[Alive isn't always a blessing. After being lost that long, anything could have happened to him.[
avengeme: (try again)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-28 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson notices but he kindly opts not to say anything when it comes to her reactions]

Well, he's coping. Aliens kind of attacked Earth about a year after he woke up.
therightpartner: (Rain)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-28 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Coping isn't a word that inspires confidence, Mr. Coulson.

[But it might be the best that can be expected considering how long he had been lost. Then she realizes what else he'd said.]

Aliens? As in War of the Worlds?
avengeme: (somewhat smug)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-04-28 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I know. It's just how it is. [he says with a slight helpless shrug]

And, yes, that kind. Except it's centered in New York.
therightpartner: (The women of Brooklyn are idiots)

[personal profile] therightpartner 2015-04-30 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[She has a few thoughts on the subject but she doubts that Coulson is the one who deserves her ire, and, knowing Steve, he isn't making the situation any easier.]

Not the expected welcome home party. I hope that there were other guests to keep the Martians entertained.
avengeme: (there are heroes)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-05-01 02:28 pm (UTC)(link)
There was a lot of death and destruction but the aliens were successfully beaten back by Captain America and his team of Avengers.
