THE TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH - APRIL

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

SO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE CREEPY HOTEL BRIGADE.
Well, welcome potential apper! Here we have the handy dandy test drive meme so you can get a feel for how your character might react to the game setting. This post can also be used to cultivate some of those required sample threads for the application.

Feel free to play any scenario you so please. However please note that TDM threads cannot be used for Activity Checks (for existing players) and will not be considered game canon unless transposed comment for comment into logs in [community profile] checkingout. We also recommend avoiding playing the initial arrival, so that the intro log doesn't become repetitive and boring for you. Other than that, go wild.

Here's a few additional useful links:

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.
No time for losers, because we — have waffles and pancakes and crepes and delicate bowls of ripe bananas and juicy oranges. We have bacon and oatmeal and cereal and milk; we have coffee (that's really hot and will burn you quite spectacularly) and tea (that, on the other hand, is miserably cold and bland). And we have orange juice (that might just kill you)!

Basically, every component one needs to start the day off right. Which is good, because this is the only meal ever served in the hotel. So come one, come all — get it while it's hot and try to pick among seats amidst the crowded circular tables, or stand along the wall. Bemoan the lack of hashbrowns or fight over the last fork. Mix, mingle. Have "fun".

DON'T YOU LOVE MY TASTE IN MUSIC.
What starts as soft, subtle musical notes wafting out of unseen speakers?

Yeah, that quickly manifests into blaring, loud, aggressively high pitched notes — so distorted, and reverberating so magnificently in the main lobby that even those impenetrable windows rattle in their frames.

And what's more, there doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere in sight. Good luck finding one.

GOING DOWN.
Right by the stairwell in the lobby is an old timey elevator, the sort that really ought to be manned by staff to insure that it's in decent working condition and won't kill you. But it's usually not. And usually doesn't run.

But today, your ears are treated to an oh-so pleasant ding, and the doors will slide open, offering a ride to the floor of your choosing. Finally, no more calf workouts on the stairs, right?

...well, you probably should have taken the stairs, because three seconds in the entire carriage shudders, screeches to a halt, and refuses to move.

Then the lights begin to flicker.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE.
Don't see a scenario that appeals to you here? Make up your own. Get crazy with it! Good luck getting outside.

COME GIVE YOUR DAD A HUG

[He stops when she demands it but the smile doesn't leave his face and it's clear he wants nothing more than to embrace her.]

Are you alright? This place--they haven't done anything to you have they?

[And there's that dark look again.]

If they have, I'll make them pay. I won't let them hurt you anymore, Daisy.

You won't let them—

[ She starts the sentence incredulous, like she needs to repeat it to be sure that's what he's saying. Anger bubbles up, and with it, all the heartache of the past few months. Her grief, her fear, her blind confusion. Dealing with her father being a psychopath, Trip being dead, and her own emerging powers that she can't even begin to understand without anyone, without any resources, without her family (except for Fitz, Fitz was always there, Fitz understood what it was like to—).

And it's his fault.
]

The only person hurting me is you. [ Well, and herself, but that's not so much conscious yet. ] You did this to me.
scienceexperiment: (Totally a good father)

AW BUT DAUGHTER

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-26 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I did this?

[He can't help but laugh softly, shaking his head as he drops his arms and gives her a warm smile.]

This side of you came from your mother, actually. I can't really take the credit for it. Oh but I wish I could. It's all so extraordinary, isn't it?

[ Unwittingly, she thinks of Ward in the cell. Coulson interrupting when she let her emotions get the better of her, carry her off-track. But Coulson's not here now, and remembering the time it happened before doesn't help her stop it from happening again.

She hates him because the alternative involves making concessions on things she can't afford to make a gray area in. Either she's an agent of the good guys, or she's got to wonder if she's not just as monstrous as any of them for ousting Donnie Gill.
]

Extraordinary? [ Disgust darkens her voice. ] I'm hurting people. I'm a monster.
scienceexperiment: (Oh now that's just funny)

;-; You wound me daughter

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-26 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Only those that are trying to change you into something you aren't. They're the monsters, not you, Daisy. Never you!

[He just wanted her to believe that. He wanted her to understand just how amazing she was because she deserved to be seen for the amazing person that she was.

Stepping towards her a bit, the doctor gave her a bit of a pleading look.]

You aren't a monster. You aren't.
hacker: (for 2k years without vaccines?)

not yet but we'll get to that i'm sure X(

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-26 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, says the guy who butchers innocent people.

[ Innocent might be a stretch, but Skye does everything in extremes. Everyone is either her best friend or her worst enemy. The boxes make her feel safe, like she can navigate this insanity. Those boxes aren't helping now. ]

God, you're loving this, aren't you? [ Judging by the look on her face, the mere idea disgusts her. ] You want me to be like you.
scienceexperiment: (Oh now that's just funny)

Harsh! So harsh!

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-28 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Innocent?

[Calvin can't help the rush of laughter that escapes him, shaking his head.]

They are hardly innocent, Daisy. You have no idea what people are capable of, truly capable of when they really put their minds to it.

[Like the man that had butchered his wife.

The mere thought makes his fists clench but his expression stays soft.]

No, no I would never...I just want you to reach your full potential, like I said. I just want you to be who you're meant to be.
hacker: (do birds ever get sad)

that's his Daisy

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-28 06:52 pm (UTC)(link)
What I was— [ The repetition is breathy from disbelief, but her voice picks up strength as she spurns him. ] I wasn't meant to be an alien weapon! People are dead because of what you decided I was meant to be!

[ She shouts it. Trip is dead. Blaming her father is easier than turning the blame inward, so she clings to it. Paces like an animal in a cage—that's what this hotel feels like. One giant cage, and sooner or later, she's gonna bring the cage down with everyone inside.

Pressing her eyes shut, she takes deep breaths to try and level herself off, but her anger is already rattling the furniture, a steady shake rumbling on the horizon. It's small, though she can't tell it from her perspective. Only stretching in a ten-foot radius away from her, on all sides.
]
scienceexperiment: (Oh now that's just funny)

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-31 03:50 am (UTC)(link)
[He would be lying if he said that her anger, her display of power, wasn't enthralling. The man loved seeing it, loved seeing his daughter utilizing her gifts and finally coming into her own.

The doctor managed not to laugh in delight and pride, instead just smiling at her in a warm fatherly fashion.]

I didn't decide anything, Daisy. No, it was decided long before I even knew what was going to happen. I only helped guide you where you needed to be.

[Calvin watched her, inching closer now that her eyes were closed.]

Fate would have caught up to you either way, Daisy.
hacker: 2.10 (what do your elf-eyes see legolas)

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-31 04:52 am (UTC)(link)
God, stop calling me that! [ Raising a hand, Skye cuts quickly through the air like she's ready to just nip this 'Daisy' shit in the bud. It's not her name. She won't just turn around and be what he wants her to be just because he forced this on her. She won't. ] This wasn't fate!

[ Incredulous, disgusted, and more than a little furious at the way he divorces responsibility like that, Skye can't help but raise her voice. ]

It was aliens, and HYDRA, and crazy people. You—You are insane if you think anyone is meant to be like this. If you think I wanted to be like this.
scienceexperiment: (With his Daisy)

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-31 11:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's who you are, Daisy! It's what your mother was and it's what you were born to be! You can't change that, none of us can!

[It was a gift that her mother gave to her; that's how Calvin saw it at least. He could only dream of being half the individual that they were.

A grin dances on his lips despite his best efforts to keep it away, pride shining in his eyes.]

She would be so proud of you.
hacker: (*takes 50 selfies*)

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-31 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well, she's not.

[ Skye cuts that off quickly, pacing now. ]

She's dead.

[ Like Trip and Ward and the people she must have killed with the earthquake in San Juan. It's like a dark shroud following her wherever she goes. No matter how good she tries to be, people turn up dead. ]

And I'm not gonna let a bunch of aliens from thousands of years ago decide who I am. I decide that. I am not this monster.
