THE TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH - APRIL

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

SO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE CREEPY HOTEL BRIGADE.
Well, welcome potential apper! Here we have the handy dandy test drive meme so you can get a feel for how your character might react to the game setting. This post can also be used to cultivate some of those required sample threads for the application.

Feel free to play any scenario you so please. However please note that TDM threads cannot be used for Activity Checks (for existing players) and will not be considered game canon unless transposed comment for comment into logs in [community profile] checkingout. We also recommend avoiding playing the initial arrival, so that the intro log doesn't become repetitive and boring for you. Other than that, go wild.

Here's a few additional useful links:

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.
No time for losers, because we — have waffles and pancakes and crepes and delicate bowls of ripe bananas and juicy oranges. We have bacon and oatmeal and cereal and milk; we have coffee (that's really hot and will burn you quite spectacularly) and tea (that, on the other hand, is miserably cold and bland). And we have orange juice (that might just kill you)!

Basically, every component one needs to start the day off right. Which is good, because this is the only meal ever served in the hotel. So come one, come all — get it while it's hot and try to pick among seats amidst the crowded circular tables, or stand along the wall. Bemoan the lack of hashbrowns or fight over the last fork. Mix, mingle. Have "fun".

DON'T YOU LOVE MY TASTE IN MUSIC.
What starts as soft, subtle musical notes wafting out of unseen speakers?

Yeah, that quickly manifests into blaring, loud, aggressively high pitched notes — so distorted, and reverberating so magnificently in the main lobby that even those impenetrable windows rattle in their frames.

And what's more, there doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere in sight. Good luck finding one.

GOING DOWN.
Right by the stairwell in the lobby is an old timey elevator, the sort that really ought to be manned by staff to insure that it's in decent working condition and won't kill you. But it's usually not. And usually doesn't run.

But today, your ears are treated to an oh-so pleasant ding, and the doors will slide open, offering a ride to the floor of your choosing. Finally, no more calf workouts on the stairs, right?

...well, you probably should have taken the stairs, because three seconds in the entire carriage shudders, screeches to a halt, and refuses to move.

Then the lights begin to flicker.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE.
Don't see a scenario that appeals to you here? Make up your own. Get crazy with it! Good luck getting outside.

Or you're simply living in some sort of bubble.

[A shrug.]

To be fair I think it was... 2022 when the Americas finally lost word from any of you, and I'll leave that to your imagination.

[A small smirk and he'll sip his tea in contemplation.]

I suppose its entirely possible you're from a different version though. I hear there are many.

[a;]
Breakfast. The most important meal of the day and apparently the only meal of the day. She had been warned when she got here of course, though no one warned her about the tea. Upon first sip of her normal morning brew she paused, looking mildly offended by the a) lack of heat and b) lack of strength that one might think she would spit it out. After a moment she swallowed it down and looked at the lukewarm mess in her cup with distaste. "Oh for fucks sake..."

The tea was sat down again, abandoned.

The coffee she was advised on already, so a cup of coffee was added to her tray with the plan to drink it last when possible. It wasn't much of a meal, the oatmeal and fruit that she did take up, but it would hold her over for the day, as would the two oranges she swiped.

Honestly this wasn't the strangest thing to deal with, other than being whisked away and dropped on a floor of a dirty old hotel and left to fend for herself. It almost seemed as if Merlin had put them through worse, and Percival had ran her though her own hoops.

Okay, no, this place was getting to her. No doors? Rain always falling? She was still on the hunt for a way out, but there was no sense starving herself as she did it.

[b;]
Never trust a lift when you don't trust the environment you are currently trapped in. Especially one so... old. When the doors opened, clearly inviting her to take this lift up instead of the stairs, she paused only to peek into it.

It was indeed old. Very old. Old and not at all her cup of tea. Roxy refused to get ON the lift, but she looked into it curiously, cautiously. For all she knew it would snap and fall, trying to cut her damn fool head off for leaning this far into it in the first place.

"I don't think so..." She said more to herself, drawing back and frowning at it. What's four floors? Running up that many flights was nothing at all. Better that then a death drop in an old lift.

I can tell you now that had there been any kind of invasion, I would have caught word of it.

[2022 was definitely some time off, and the idea of something so heinous happening that it would cause the Americas to lose contact was definitely up there. Nothing short of a nuclear strike would cause that, so it definitely has Merlin's imagination ticking.

At least he isn't stupid enough to let it get the better of him, it's merely considered with idly curiosity.]

Possible. There seems to be a lot of that going around in this place.

[His brows raise.]

Really? Does that make you a soldier of some kind?
pickapuppy: (pic#8924850)

[personal profile] pickapuppy 2015-04-09 04:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[That question simply gets a raised eyebrow and a look. If Merlin had a pound for every time someone asked that... well, he'd be much richer.]

I'm not a soldier. And you don't strike me as one either.
onlyhomemade: (Gabriel)

[personal profile] onlyhomemade 2015-04-09 05:17 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gabriel has to wonder if this particular human was just itching to be slaughtered with some of the sniping comments. Why is it that even if he doesn't know a being they still tend to be rude for no good reason. It's not like he outright insulted him, though perhaps some were just defensive when you said their entire race were worthless.

There's a moment where his brows furrow, at first taking the comment as an insult but then smirking softly to himself.
]

You're right, I'm no mere soldier. I'm a General in God's army. Have you figured out who or what I am yet? I've given you quite a few clues.
pickapuppy: (pic#8924851)

[personal profile] pickapuppy 2015-04-09 05:22 pm (UTC)(link)
[A general in God's army. Merlin won't even bother hiding the skeptical look on his face. This was above and beyond religious nutter. The question now was if he should go along with it not to see where the madness went, and if there was even any logic in there.

That and the small chance that should they be from the same world then the information could be useful. And if not, well it'd be useful for keeping note of to use in future.]

I've already said I don't believe in God. That and considering there's seven, my chances of getting it right first go would be slim.
onlyhomemade: (Yes really.)

[personal profile] onlyhomemade 2015-04-09 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[A satisfied nod at that. So he was picking it up even if he was obviously skeptical about what he was saying. In the end Gabriel doesn't care if the man believes him or not. Until he could work out what sort of limitations were placed on him, and he's sure there's some because he can feel it, there's no need pushing the issue.]

That's alright. He doesn't believe in you either.

[A halfsmile as if it were meant as a playful joke. It's clearly not.]

Oh, c'mon, not even a guess? I'll give you three, that's fair.
pickapuppy: (pic#8924851)

[personal profile] pickapuppy 2015-04-13 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[Merlin actually takes a moment to look Gabriel over, taking in not only the appearance of armor, but also how the other looks. Seems human to him, but then who knew in a place like this? That being said, Merlin doesn't like to make baseless guesses and even though there are three being offered, the odds are against him. It's that which has Merlin shaking his head.]

Give me a good reason why I should be remotely interested in playing your guessing game.
onlyhomemade: (At attention)

[personal profile] onlyhomemade 2015-04-13 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Gabriel gives a small, exasperated sigh, disappointed at how stubborn this man is.]

Simply because we have literally nothing better to do.

[personal profile] a_chipped_cup 2015-04-17 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
[She had been exploring the various common areas of the hotel, as well as peering around in the boiler room. The breakfast hadn't been very appetizing, but there was enough to distract her otherwise. Especially when the elevator doors mysteriously open. In the short time she's been here, she hadn't seen them come to life before.

It's enough to warrant closer inspection, even despite her common sense telling her otherwise. Belle steps into the elevator hesitantly, looking around with apprehension and distrust. Anything could happen, but clearly this was happening for a reason. Who was she not to test the limits?]
magicsprice: ([.] and foolish love)

[personal profile] magicsprice 2015-04-17 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
[Gold had been quietly shadowing Belle since her arrival. Given the rocky first week he'd gotten off to, he wanted to keep an eye on her. Call it an irrational desire to make certain she came to no harm by either the hotel or the people within it. When he spotted her entering the elevator he finally moved into sight, extending a hand to keep the elevator door from closing.]

I don't think this works properly, sweetheart. Why don't we take the stairs?

[While he's not seen the elevator actually work enough to open its doors either, he doesn't trust how it looks enough to trust it to work. Thus he's going to treat it as the trap it looks like to him.]
a_chipped_cup: ([Belle] Smiles (Interest))

[personal profile] a_chipped_cup 2015-04-17 07:41 am (UTC)(link)
I figured it was opening for a reason. [But she'll assuage his fears and step out of it. His offer to take the stairs is met with a momentary look of concern. She doesn't want him straining himself or putting too much weight on his ankle. His safety and health worrying her.]

How did you know I was here? [She has an idea that he was following her, but she'll let him admit it. Seeing his blush would be enough to make her smile.]
magicsprice: (pic#9014494)

[personal profile] magicsprice 2015-04-17 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He ducked his head, stepping back once Belle is safely out of the elevator and back into the hall. Turning in the direction of the stairs. There is a bit of color in his cheeks at being essentially caught out in his shadowing. After a moment he let's his eyes rise back up to meet hers as he replies.]

I was...following you. I don't trust this hotel not to pull something on either of us should it take a mind to.

[After all, Emma had apparently vanished shortly after his arrival. Who's to say the hotel won't do something to separate the two of them? He'd rather prevent that from happening if he can.]

Regina Mills / Once Upon a Time

[personal profile] nolongeraqueen 2015-04-18 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Option One: Going Down

[Regina Mills was a woman who was an enigma. Really, even those who got to know her never really knew her that well. There were always hidden depths, secrets that she didn't share in person. If anyone had gotten close enough, it was Henry and Robin. Henry, her son who she loved and adored, even if she wasn't the woman who birthed him. And Robin, the man who was her soul mate. Barring them, she never let anyone else see her for what she truly was, what she could have been. A good person. The good person Henry believed she could be.

No, when someone saw Regina, they saw the cold exterior. The flawless image, from her hair to her dress. Makeup that was perfectly applied like there was nothing ever wrong. She had the demeanor of a woman who could be heartless when the situation warranted it. Unlike others, she had no problem taking a heart and crushing it into dust. One might even think she doesn't have a heart at all.

As she approached the elevator, one eyebrow raised in suspicion as she stared at it. Her hand reached out, running her fingernails down along the length of the metal.]

There is no way I am ever getting into that. I'd take the stairs every time before I even begin contemplating it. With everything around us, you can't even updated an elevator? How is this acceptable to people with disabilities? [To be fair, she didn't care about any of the people with disabilities.]

Are there even stairs in this place at all?

Option Two: Breakfast

[Regina Mills was a woman of mystery. There were always hidden depths, secrets that she didn't share in person. There were only a few people in her life that she really had let get close. And, sadly, none of them were here with her at the moment. If she could have her choice of anyone from her realm, she would ask for two people to join her here. Henry, her son who she loved and adored, even if she wasn't the woman who birthed him. And Robin, the man who was her soul mate. Barring them, she never let anyone else see her for what she truly was, what she could have been. A good person. The good person Henry believed she could be. The good person that Robin blindly thought that she was.

And still, Regina wouldn't wish this existence on them. Not Henry. Not Robin. And they would be wrong. She did have one. The problem was it had been broken so many times that she wasn't ready to risk it. Not again.

While the breakfast might have appeared grand to some, it was sub par at best to her. Nothing compared once you'd seen breakfast made for royalty in a royal castle. Standing off to the side, not even bothering to sit down, Regina sipped her almost drinkable coffee and silently watched as others mingled. Let them enjoy their breakfast, she thought to herself.

She would be busy trying to plot a way out of here.]

Howard Stark - Agent Carter / Marvel Cinematic Universe

[personal profile] likesfondue 2015-04-18 01:12 am (UTC)(link)
Option One: Terrible Music

[Howard Stark, man of many talents. Bright. Enigmatic. Intelligent. He was a man who was a charmer. He loved the ladies, and some of the men too, though that didn't get as much press. A man who loved science, he loved to see how things worked. His mind was always whirling, always trying to invent something new, something better. He was a man who loved his work.

Perhaps a little too much. His life suffered for it. His best friends were his butler and the woman he could never have, the one that was just too good for him. He wasn't surprised by that fact. As fabulous as he was, even he couldn't play second fiddle to Captain America. Nobody could ever fill those shoes. Instead, he loved Peggy like a friend. Like a sister. And always made sure to be there for her as much as she was for him.

Peggy. He could go for a little does of her right about now. Standing in the middle of the lobby, he stared around the room in horror, a look of annoyance on his face. Not only could he not find the source of the music, but trying to undo the wires of the speakers only seemed to make the music louder. Covering his ears, Howard paced back and forth, wishing that the floor would just swallow him up and send him to hell already.]

Please, anything but this? I would even listen to Tex Ritter. Come on. This is horrible!

Option Two: Breakfast

[Howard Stark, man of many talents. Bright. Enigmatic. Intelligent. He was a man who was a charmer. He loved the ladies, and some of the men too, though that didn't get as much press. Some things just had to remain private, even if you were a Stark. A man who loved science, he loved to see how things worked. His mind was always whirling, always trying to invent something new, something better. He was a man who loved his work.

Sometimes a little too much. His life suffered for it. Oh, he had a life, lots of fun and knew how to throw his money around, but that didn't always buy happiness. He'd have been lost without her. Peggy and Jarvis were the only two who had rooted for him all along and believed in his innocence, even when he wasn't really. He thought he'd been doing a good thing. The road to hell and all of that.

Peggy. He could go for a little does of her right about now. He smiled as he made his way around the breakfast room, sipping his coffee and nibbling on a danish. If he was going to find out anything about where he was, he was going to have to do what he did best. Charm people. He turned, walking up to the first person he saw with a huge grin.]

The stairs are over that way. But I don't know about the disabilities thing.

Option 2

[Peggy had been poking at her own breakfast, wary of what it might actually do if she prodded it too much. There were rumors of poisons and other nasty surprises. It was enough to make a lady consider dieting... if this wasn't the only meal that would be served today.

For a moment, she wished for one of the pies that Angie would sneak back to their apartment or the decadent treats Howard's chef whipped up whenever she visited.

Howard...

The sound of a familiar voice caused her to forget the weak tea and questionable eggs in front of her. Standing she picked up her handbag and headed toward where she thought the speaker might be. For a moment, she could only stare, relieved and horrified that Howard had been brought here as well. No matter how much she might miss home, this wasn't what she had ever wanted for her friends.

Whoever Howard was talking to seemed to notice her presence and scurried away quickly. That 'guest' had good instincts at least.]

Thanks. I...

[Regina turned, glancing down at Henry and raising an eyebrow at him. It was uncanny how much he looked like her son. Yet, it couldn't be him, could it? One hand reached up, scratching the back of her neck and she stared at him. Whatever words she was going to say died a little in her throat.]

It... It isn't. I... Henry?

[She wanted to be wrong. She wanted to be so wrong, because that meant her son was still home and safe. Not here. Not trapped like she felt she was. It couldn't be him, could it?]

Hey wait...

[Howard's smile faltered as he saw the person rushing off rather suddenly. Leaning down, he sniffed himself, wondering if he offended in some way. While he did like to watch the person leave and admire them from behind, the voice that came up behind him did give him quite a start.

He turned, grinning widely at Peggy. Quickly, he gobbled up the danish so that he could at least have one hand free while he talked to Peggy. Oh, it was so good to see her, even in a situation like this. Especially in a situation like this, if he was honest with himself. She was the voice of reason, the true brains of many operations. There was a reason that she was his go to.

Even when she was teasing him.]

Eh, Peg, I'm not feeling myself. Was a bit rushed, you know. Had to think fast. You're looking good. Should I try my line on you, or just give up now?

Hey Mom. [He walked closer to her, his mind mentally telling him that he was taking longer strides than usual and that he was taller than when he last saw her.]

Yeah, I think the elevator is all magically weird. But the stairs seem fine.

[He felt oddly calm about this entire encounter. While things had changed for him, at least his mother was the same. Or maybe so much weird stuff had happened since he'd brought Emma to Storybrooke, or even before that, that he's just used to it by now. He wasn't sure. But either way, he smiled.]

[Gold had spotted the new arrival and once he'd acquired his own coffee, he picked up a couple oranges pocketing them for later and made his way over toward the woman. He could see the gears turning behind that judging gaze of hers as he drew closer and pulled out an apple he'd stashed in his pocket earlier to toss it toward her as he spoke.

Hopefully she'd pull herself out of her brooding thoughts to catch it before it hit the floor.]

[Roxy was in the middle of exploring this place from top to bottom. There were other Kingsmen here and they had been here for a bit longer then she found herself, which meant if there was a way out that was obvious, one of the boys would have found it by now.]

[With that thought, it was either hidden very well, or there was something strange going on and there really was no door. And considering that she woke up in the middle of a hall, lost and confused in her Halo suit, well... anything could happen. It wasn't the first time she had been knocked out and woke up on the wrong side of the tracks before.]

[The young woman was walking down this hall, fingers running over the wall as she walked, looking, searching. When she heard someone speaking though, she paused, looking further down the hall to the woman and the lift. Now that was new. Last time she hit the button for the lift it didn't work. Walking towards it and the woman she tilted her head, light hair swaying a bit in a pony tail.]

[Roxy was dressed in one of her suits from her suit case, a proper well fitted dark grey bespoke pants suit that she hadn't even got yet. It was better then wandering around in her halo suit.]

Thankfully there are few here with disabilities. At least from what I've seen. [she spoke with a light English accent, looking upon the woman with an easy but collected appearance.] There are, however, stairs.
