THE TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH - APRIL

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

SO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE CREEPY HOTEL BRIGADE.
Well, welcome potential apper! Here we have the handy dandy test drive meme so you can get a feel for how your character might react to the game setting. This post can also be used to cultivate some of those required sample threads for the application.

Feel free to play any scenario you so please. However please note that TDM threads cannot be used for Activity Checks (for existing players) and will not be considered game canon unless transposed comment for comment into logs in [community profile] checkingout. We also recommend avoiding playing the initial arrival, so that the intro log doesn't become repetitive and boring for you. Other than that, go wild.

Here's a few additional useful links:

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.
No time for losers, because we — have waffles and pancakes and crepes and delicate bowls of ripe bananas and juicy oranges. We have bacon and oatmeal and cereal and milk; we have coffee (that's really hot and will burn you quite spectacularly) and tea (that, on the other hand, is miserably cold and bland). And we have orange juice (that might just kill you)!

Basically, every component one needs to start the day off right. Which is good, because this is the only meal ever served in the hotel. So come one, come all — get it while it's hot and try to pick among seats amidst the crowded circular tables, or stand along the wall. Bemoan the lack of hashbrowns or fight over the last fork. Mix, mingle. Have "fun".

DON'T YOU LOVE MY TASTE IN MUSIC.
What starts as soft, subtle musical notes wafting out of unseen speakers?

Yeah, that quickly manifests into blaring, loud, aggressively high pitched notes — so distorted, and reverberating so magnificently in the main lobby that even those impenetrable windows rattle in their frames.

And what's more, there doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere in sight. Good luck finding one.

GOING DOWN.
Right by the stairwell in the lobby is an old timey elevator, the sort that really ought to be manned by staff to insure that it's in decent working condition and won't kill you. But it's usually not. And usually doesn't run.

But today, your ears are treated to an oh-so pleasant ding, and the doors will slide open, offering a ride to the floor of your choosing. Finally, no more calf workouts on the stairs, right?

...well, you probably should have taken the stairs, because three seconds in the entire carriage shudders, screeches to a halt, and refuses to move.

Then the lights begin to flicker.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE.
Don't see a scenario that appeals to you here? Make up your own. Get crazy with it! Good luck getting outside.
pajarita: (the rules i break got me a place)

gorgeous. he can come cuddle in her room too

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[it's not like she couldn't do it. immediately, she bristles, but the snapping back gets cut off short because damn.

some of those bolts are screwed on tight. and you get more done in a team than by being stubborn, here, so she'll take care of the bolts on the upper half.]

So what's your speciality?
pajarita: (wanted it bad)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Do I look like one of those?
pajarita: (thrill is to make it up)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Tragic's a word for it. My world, are a couple of other words for it.

Anyway -- what about you?

He'll deny it forever

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 05:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Weapons and stuff like that. Can build anything I put my mind to though. Ain't too hard to rewire a ship if need be.

[Dropping the two bolts from the lower portion onto the floor, he moves back a bit to give her some more room, one ear falling to the side as the other perks a bit.]

Yours?
pajarita: (unsure)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Zero-g mechanics. [she makes bombs out of tin cans and rocket fuel. she makes a lot of things that kill people, apparently.]

And a bunch of other stuff.

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? [He can't help but smirk.] Impressive. Not many out there that can deal with that sort of thing.
pajarita: (Default)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Not many get to at 18. [okay, yeah. she's proud about that one, and bragging to a shorty raccoon who makes guns

w h a t e v e r.]

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Ya' well, your all talk right now, lady. If we ever get the chance, I'll expect ya' to prove it.

[He was still smirking despite his harsh words, offering his hand to her.]

Name's Rocket.
pajarita: (unsure)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:48 pm (UTC)(link)
[she looks down at that, pausing for a moment, before shaking it.]

Trust me. I'd blow your mind. Raven.
lottawork: (grumpy scottish grump)

they have twin arm-crossed grumpy icons i /swear/

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 05:50 pm (UTC)(link)
[That seems to have taken them in the predictable full circle. Socially ordained conversational norms usually dictate a give-take exchange, a ritual of which Rush has only the barest understanding and subsequent interest. He's not in the habit of divulging a great deal of personal information, nor is he well accustomed to having interest expressed toward him in turn.]

I've generally had very little experience with war-ravaged planets, at least to my knowledge.

[Nailed it.]

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 05:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Big words, Raven. Big words.

[Dropping his hand, he rests both on his hips and looks at the panel.]

Alright, let's see if we can get this thing movin'!
pajarita: (thrill is to make it up)

it's beautiful and i'm sticking to them

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[aw come on, that's like. a slippery way out. that's like something she'd pull.]

To your knowledge?
pajarita: (and i want it i want my life so bad)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 05:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[big words for a little raccoon too, but he's sensitive about that so she's just going to

hush? she guesses she'll hush.]
Alright then.

[she takes the panel off, exposing the wires in all their glory. their unexplicative, unsolvable glory.]

I'm gonna admit I don't know which one connects to the doors yet. How do you feel about dropping from the first floor?
lottawork: (side-eye game on point)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 06:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[His expression briefly flickers with annoyance before resolving into one of weary concentration.]

Planetary variation is to be expected. In those lacking any remnants of civilization, the fate of whatever population may have once existed can only be guessed at.

[Despicably. The inherent inaccuracies involved in intuitive guesswork will never cease to irk him and he knows so many words that begin with 'i'.]
pajarita: (the rules i break got me a place)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 06:06 pm (UTC)(link)
[she shakes her head,] Not my point. You said you had no experience with them to your knowledge. Meaning what, you might've experienced them without your knowledge?
lottawork: (u fookin serious rn??)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 06:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[He counters with a quiet, thoroughly irritated hiss.]

Given my range of interplanetary exploration, it is entirely possible. Any number of worlds could have been post-apocalyptic wastelands prior to their discovery.
pajarita: (the rules i break got me a place)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[now seriously was it that hard to communicate.] I'm sorry, did I bother you with that question?
lottawork: (distrust)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 07:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[There is a great deal of things bothering him, from the unbearably necessary minutiae of physical existence to the fact that he has been trapped, grounded, kept in a highly restricting, desolate, seemingly completely isolated environment that defies any conventional methods of understanding.

He grinds out his next words between a rapid burst of fluid writing, a wealth of uncomfortable energy barely contained.]

It doesn't seem especially relevant.

pajarita: (i run the streets)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 07:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Wow, okay. [nope. there are geniuses and there are dicks and unfortunately the misconception or accurate assumption here is that he's more of the latter. hiding behind writing -- she's smart but she's not losing her mind, right?

whatever. she's going to go and get breakfast.]
lottawork: (nervous breakdown)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[For an iron moment there's a clenching of his free hand into a fist, a strained tension tightening the line of his shoulders, until abruptly eases away in a silent flood of dissolution.

The intruder has taken her leave. Apparently.

With a slow, uneven, palliating hush of breath between his teeth, Rush forces his hand to steady, and continues writing.]

[ Skye knows a dismissal when she hears one, but she stands there slack-jawed, disbelieving for a moment all the same. Her jaw clenches, and she searches for a way to salvage this. To change Kara's mind.

She can't, of course. And she accepts that sooner or later.

Leaning slightly back, she straightens, as if recoiling from an animal that bit her. Two blinks later, she grabs her food and excuses herself, shaking her head in a way that indicates she can't imagine 33's position being what it is.
]
hacker: (for 2k years without vaccines?)

not yet but we'll get to that i'm sure X(

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-26 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, says the guy who butchers innocent people.

[ Innocent might be a stretch, but Skye does everything in extremes. Everyone is either her best friend or her worst enemy. The boxes make her feel safe, like she can navigate this insanity. Those boxes aren't helping now. ]

God, you're loving this, aren't you? [ Judging by the look on her face, the mere idea disgusts her. ] You want me to be like you.
hacker: (can someone tell me)

omg yaaaay

[personal profile] hacker 2015-03-26 07:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Skye laughs at that, shaking her head. ]

Yeah, already well into Twilight Zone, believe me. We've got inter-dimensional time travel, incompetent heating and cooling, and a big, heaping helping of freaking ghosts. I'm pretty sure Twilight Zone just jumped the shark.

[ Unnecessary deaths implies that some deaths are necessary, of course. It seems like a logical statement, but having to state it at all sort of negates that.

Fitz doesn't move to join him at the table (obviously). He doesn't move at all, though he does cast a quick glance around the room. Not looking for help — checking to make sure Skye isn't about to walk into this.

He's still looking elsewhere when he starts to speak, voice carefully flat and neutral, focus shifting back to Cal on the last few words.
]

Did you just get here?
technologist: (563)

[personal profile] technologist 2015-03-26 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, well— I've got a small kit, actually. Back in my room.

[ Said with a glance towards the exit and said room, and also kind of a literal answer to a not-so-literal statement. It's followed by an awkward pause while he stands there, not entirely sure what the protocol is for... any of this. Breakfast with Director Coulson, apparently. ]

Can I...

[ Sit down. The answer's obvious, but it still feels vaguely respectful to ask. ]
