THE TEST DRIVE MEME: MARCH - APRIL

THE TEST DRIVE MEME

SO YOU WANT TO JOIN THE CREEPY HOTEL BRIGADE.
Well, welcome potential apper! Here we have the handy dandy test drive meme so you can get a feel for how your character might react to the game setting. This post can also be used to cultivate some of those required sample threads for the application.

Feel free to play any scenario you so please. However please note that TDM threads cannot be used for Activity Checks (for existing players) and will not be considered game canon unless transposed comment for comment into logs in [community profile] checkingout. We also recommend avoiding playing the initial arrival, so that the intro log doesn't become repetitive and boring for you. Other than that, go wild.

Here's a few additional useful links:

BREAKFAST OF CHAMPIONS.
No time for losers, because we — have waffles and pancakes and crepes and delicate bowls of ripe bananas and juicy oranges. We have bacon and oatmeal and cereal and milk; we have coffee (that's really hot and will burn you quite spectacularly) and tea (that, on the other hand, is miserably cold and bland). And we have orange juice (that might just kill you)!

Basically, every component one needs to start the day off right. Which is good, because this is the only meal ever served in the hotel. So come one, come all — get it while it's hot and try to pick among seats amidst the crowded circular tables, or stand along the wall. Bemoan the lack of hashbrowns or fight over the last fork. Mix, mingle. Have "fun".

DON'T YOU LOVE MY TASTE IN MUSIC.
What starts as soft, subtle musical notes wafting out of unseen speakers?

Yeah, that quickly manifests into blaring, loud, aggressively high pitched notes — so distorted, and reverberating so magnificently in the main lobby that even those impenetrable windows rattle in their frames.

And what's more, there doesn't seem to be an off switch anywhere in sight. Good luck finding one.

GOING DOWN.
Right by the stairwell in the lobby is an old timey elevator, the sort that really ought to be manned by staff to insure that it's in decent working condition and won't kill you. But it's usually not. And usually doesn't run.

But today, your ears are treated to an oh-so pleasant ding, and the doors will slide open, offering a ride to the floor of your choosing. Finally, no more calf workouts on the stairs, right?

...well, you probably should have taken the stairs, because three seconds in the entire carriage shudders, screeches to a halt, and refuses to move.

Then the lights begin to flicker.

CHOOSE YOUR OWN ADVENTURE.
Don't see a scenario that appeals to you here? Make up your own. Get crazy with it! Good luck getting outside.

No. [This much is fair fucking transparent. The pen withdraws from the wall as he gazes fixedly at the chaotic grid of ink on its surface, brow beetling in a frown whose abrupt intensity may not be fully warranted.] The tearing of dimensions, branes, without the assistance of anything as poorly understood as magic - is not unheard of. Until those options can be ruled out, the problem is well within hand.

[The fact that the sense of displacement seems universal, all the affected describing the same sense of disorientation in a uniform state of events, may very well be a fearful, incomprehensible indicator of some hidden meaning. Rush refuses to ascribe clear purpose to this unless he independently reaches that conclusion. There are too many external, unquantifiable factors. Too much keyed a useless sense of fear and powerlessness. Non-objective. Non-conducive to study.]
pajarita: (and i want it i want my life so bad)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 03:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[she's getting her doubts about whether or not he's too intense or a little out of it. not that there's any substance on which to get 'a little out of it', but she hasn't seen intensity this focused and out of focus before.

she has to run his words over in her head again.]

Wait - what do you mean the tearing of dimensions without assistance isn't unheard of?

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Fantastic! That's just rich!

[Dragging his hands down his face, Rocket scrubbed at his eyes a bit before he let them drop away and he moved over to get a look at the levers himself, glaring at them with a critical eye.]

If we can open that stupid thing up I might be able to rewire things.

BD

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rocket jerks and turns to face the girl, ears going back as he glares at her.]

Stop with the yellin'! What's your deal, lady?!
pajarita: (me i'm a taker)

B) and then they build a rocket outta here

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm not yelling, you're a fucking talking raccoon!!

[pointing at him like. DUH]
lottawork: (splainy | eye contact is for nerds)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah. The corner of his mouth twitches, the blaze of concentration slides away, and whatever tenuous equilibrium he'd established previously returns. Still he does not look away.]

It was quite possible in my previous line of work, yes. [There is a pronounced edge of bitterness when he continues, oil slick and poorly veiled.] Though I never witnessed it firsthand.
avengeme: (drink)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson's own grip is firm and sure. The callouses on his fingers and knuckles definitely show signs of gun use and of someone who dabbles in hand-to-hand combat.

He smiles gently, flattered by the way Jack is looking at him though he's intent on making sure he's not acknowledging it with any visual or verbal cues.]

You'd be right. And thank you. Are you military?
pajarita: (wanted to fight this war)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
[bitter, then? she'd probably be bitter too, if anything happened in space with her stuck on the ground without the chance to see it. but that's going to be her life from now on, if she lives long enough.]

Space travel? [she's ticking off things on her list.]

Damn right!

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 04:02 pm (UTC)(link)
What is it with this raccoon thing?! I ain't a raccoon, lady!

[Goddamn humans and their weird lingo.

Rocket sneered at her a bit before pointing right back at her.]

Lemme guess, you ain't never had dealins with an alien before, have you? Figures I get stuck in a place where everyone's stupid to the idea of it!
lottawork: (think the thoughts)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 04:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Among other things.

[This with a prim flick of his pen, skittering over the surface in its untidy notation. She has made it a simple enough endeavor to gauge her relative interest level - it may be useful to have a firmer idea of how much of a knowledge base she truly possesses.

There's nested intrigue in his expression when his eyes dart, briefly, her way.]

Familiar with that, are you?
pajarita: (thrill is to make it up)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:07 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a species that looks exactly like you. [so aliens. sure why not?

she's seen grounders and reapers and mountain men; she's seen people from different points in time, and different worlds in this place. why not aliens that look like little talking raccoons? at least it's not a mutation.]

Hey -- hey. [why is she getting snippy at a bag of fleas?!] I've live in space my whole life, and we've seen some pretty crushing technological advances, but you're...weird, by my standards.
pajarita: (relentless)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
[she knows how to communicate to intense engineers, however annoying the process is.]

Space living, yeah. Travel, not so much -- unless you count crashing to Earth in an escape pod.

[personal profile] aintnothinglikeme 2015-03-26 04:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, hey, sorry! My bad! I forgot you humans are totally more advanced than any other race out there in the cosmos!

[Insert sharp bark of laughter here.]

How could I forget!

[He gives her a dry look then, tail twitching as his ears perk some and flick.]

Just because you've been in space, lady, doesn't mean a damn thing!
Edited 2015-03-26 16:09 (UTC)
pajarita: (the rules i break got me a place)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[she sees where you're going, and she's listening to your hissy fit, and she's sure it's absolutely justified, but. those ears flicking.

she's gonna just

snort a little.]

That's cute.
scienceexperiment: (Oh now that's just funny)

;-; You wound me daughter

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-26 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
Only those that are trying to change you into something you aren't. They're the monsters, not you, Daisy. Never you!

[He just wanted her to believe that. He wanted her to understand just how amazing she was because she deserved to be seen for the amazing person that she was.

Stepping towards her a bit, the doctor gave her a bit of a pleading look.]

You aren't a monster. You aren't.
avengeme: (Another chance he takes)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-26 04:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson doesn't know yet, unfortunately. And it grates on him that Ward might know something he doesn't. He's good at not letting it show though. He just quirks an eyebrow in response]

For now.

[He has to concede the point. There likely isn't a strong enough or isolated door in this hotel that will hold Ward. Not yet anyway]

Doesn't mean I'm not going to keep an eye on you.
scienceexperiment: (The Doctor)

[Surprise flickers across his face before he lets out a bit of laughter, clapping his hands together.]

Yes, yes I helped that young man. It was my fault that he was hurt but I helped him too. I don't want any unnecessary deaths. I would never want that.

[This young man didn't remember the same things did he?

How interesting.]
lottawork: (adrift)

[personal profile] lottawork 2015-03-26 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, that certainly fits the definition.

[And she has successfully captured a more significant portion of his attention. He turns slightly to face her more fully with brow-notched curiosity.

In a precise twitch of motion he returns to writing, pausing shortly thereafter.]

You were rather technologically advanced, then.
avengeme: (wistful)

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-26 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Indeed she can't. Coulson tries to smile encouragingly. His tone kind.]

You don't have to hide your face from me.
scienceexperiment: (Default)

[personal profile] scienceexperiment 2015-03-26 04:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not only what he's saying that draws Calvin's attention but the young man's appearance. There was something outright interesting about him, something abnormal that the doctor could see lingering underneath the surface. What it was, he had no idea but oh did he want to know.]

They are like a plague sometimes, aren't they?

[He might have been human in his own right but he hated associating himself with them. No, no he wasn't like them and would never be like them. He was something so much more than that.

Something greater, even if he didn't get the recognition he deserved sometimes.]

Looking for something?

[Rocket freezes, his eyes slowly narrowing and his ears fall back again.]

What did you say?
pajarita: (i'm like a rubber band)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
Not really. [and here, the bitterness shows.] A technologically advanced society would've been able to stop its population from dying of oxygen deprivation.

Or figured out other sollutions, instead of just killing people off for minor infractions, just to keep it culled.
pajarita: (smirk I)

[personal profile] pajarita 2015-03-26 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[she points towards his ears, wiggling her fingers.]

Is that your angry thing?
avengeme: (A pretty face may hide an evil mind)

I shaalll

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-26 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[he catches the look and follows her out]

Something like that.

[He doesn't touch her but he stays close and keeps his voice light]

Or it could take a page right out of the Twilight Zone.
avengeme: (arms crossed)

Fiiiitz

[personal profile] avengeme 2015-03-26 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
[Coulson can't help but feel the corner of his lips quirk up slightly. He can definitely picture Fitz testing the coffee in this place]

Since yesterday. I missed breakfast though.

I take it equipment isn't easy to come by around here.
